This housing block is the first extra care scheme to be built by Brighton and Hove Council, and is designed to promote independent living for those with mild to moderate dementia and others who need a little more care. With a growing number of older people in the city and pressure on adult social care budgets, the scheme will help prevent or delay people needing more expensive residential care.

The 45 apartment, five storey mansion block has shared spaces at ground floor level, including a planted garden, communal lounge and activity rooms and carers are on-site around the clock if needed. Well-lit circulation leads to the accommodation above. Looped circulation adds to the conviviality of the block, encouraging connection between residents. Each one and two-bedroom flat has views out to the street, and onto the courtyard garden.
