A new local neighbourhood at the heart of Penge
The redevelopment of the Blenheim Centre moves the focus from parking and shopping to a lively neighbourhood with private and affordable housing, a range of commercial and community uses and inclusive and accessible public realm for the residents of Bromley.
Providing more than a quarter of the Borough’s annual housing targets, the scheme will include 230 dwellings in four blocks. Affordable housing will make up a third of the scheme with a substantial number of family homes and 70% dual-aspect homes.
The new public square and a sequence of green spaces will connect the existing residential community to the High Street, enhancing and supporting the area’s changing needs.
Think global, act local
Penge’s street art culture has long been a beacon for artists from all over the world. Hadley and Latimer have been working with local curator London Calling, using the empty rooftop space of the Blenheim Centre to display a rotating selection of works which celebrates the genre.
Within this changing and evolving art exhibition, the rooftop has become a community hub. Schools have shared their own take on street art, it has become a venue for sports coaching and weekly yoga classes, and a Cycle repair station.
Community Open Days, with live music and refreshments have been an important tool to encourage people, young and old, to feel part of the community, enjoy the artwork and activities and experience the views of the surrounding town they live in.
