The restoration of Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings – the first iron framed building – as a mixed use workplace, museum and café and the Catalyst Building – a flexible teaching and learning building, student hub and a gateway that reaches beyond the campus to connect university and industry for the University of Staffordshire are among just 12 projects shortlisted for the RIBA West Midlands Awards.
Jessica Barker, Co-founder and Director of Stolon Studio and RIBA West Midlands Jury Chair said “The shortlisted projects demonstrate a fabric first approach and appetite for sustainability, coupled with a respect for the surrounding agricultural heritage which characterises the West Midlands. They showcase the positive potential for architecture to build community cohesion, local pride, belonging and greater engagement in our shared, industrial history.”
FCBStudios are delighted to have a total of seven shortlisted projects in the 2024 RIBA Regional Awards. The projects will be visited by a regional jury and winning projects will be announced later in the spring.
