Two FCBStudios projects shortlisted for RIBA London Awards
Rotherhithe Primary School and Unity Place have been named among the 76 projects shortlisted in the RIBA London Awards.
Rotherhithe Primary School is part of Southwark Council’s ambitious school rebuilding programme, replacing an existing two form entry school with a three form entry primary on the same urban site. Set in an unusually generous playground, the school is set within its own garden landscape providing a safe, vibrant and stimulating environment for the children to learn and play in.
Unity Place is a 100% affordable housing development, regenerating the South Kilburn Estate in the London Borough of Brent. Part of a wider FCBStudios masterplan, the development has buildings designed by FCBStudios, Alison Brooks Architects and Gort Scott, that has transformed the area into an inviting and coherent urban community.
RIBA regional director for London, Dian Small, said: ‘As we seek new housing solutions and innovative approaches to urban regeneration, these projects provide hope for the future of our cities.
‘From small-scale refurbishments and self-build family homes in south London, to revitalised cultural centres in west, and reimagined industrial heritage sites in north, the projects highlight the diversity of London’s rich architectural heritage, but remain united in their commitment to social value and sustainable design.’
The winners of the Regional Awards will be announced in the summer.
