Explore I News I Civic Trust Awards regional finalists announced

Ulster University Belfast Campus and Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings have been named as 2024 Regional Finalists in the Civic Trust Awards, with Shrewsbury Flaxmill also named a Regional Finalist for an AABC Conservation Award, demonstrating the highest standards of historic building conservation.

These achievements come following a rigorous first stage assessment process which included submissions from over 300 projects.

Ulster University’s Belfast Campus moves the University from suburbia into the city centre, accommodating 15,000 staff and students, in four faculties and departments. This new campus raises the profile of Higher Education and positions it as an integral part of civic life. The design works to facilitate engagement with the community and promote social equity through broadening access to education. The University is energised by the city, which in turn is given energy by the University.

As a flagship heritage regeneration project for Historic England, Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings has been brought back to life as an adaptable workspace, leisure destination and social enterprise hub for ‘the next 100 years’ and demonstrates how historic buildings can be sustainably reused and restored after many decades in decline, through understanding, innovation, and a gentle touch to repair the fabric.

Regional Finalists will now be considered by the National Judging Panel to be recognised Nationally/Internationally as one of the 2024 Award or Highly Commended Winners.
