Joe Jack Williams joins AJ Climate Champions podcast as cohost
18 March 2024
FCBStudios Partner Joe Jack Williams joins AJ Sustainability Editor Hattie Hartman to cohost the AJ Climate Champions podcast.
The new series is a six episode special focussed on materials. Building on the themes explored in their new book: Materials: AN Environmental Primer, published by RIBA Publishing, Joe and Hattie will welcome experts on materials to the long running podcast.
Materiality is central to architecture. The materials we build with shape what we build, as well as how buildings look, feel and perform. In the 2020s, the climate emergency has upended mainstream architectural practice, resulting in heightened awareness of the critical importance of material selection in buildings. These ecological concerns have led to intense scrutiny of the impact of conventional materials and a burgeoning interest in regenerative materials.
The book and the podcast outline the wider conversation about materials choice, helping designers to navigate the minefield of choosing the most appropriate material for a particular application on a project and facilitate more informed material choices.
In the first episode of the series, Martha Lewis, Head of Materials at Henning Larsen argues that a baseline of health and environmental impacts should inform specification. Available to listen to now, from wherever you get your podcasts.
